Use your driver license to fly Here’s how to not get delayed
The ID in your wallet won’t get you past airport security when new federal requirements begin October 1, 2020.
The California DMV is offering a REAL ID card— a new federal compliant option for driver licenses and identification cards.
You will need to visit a DMV field office to apply for a REAL ID. Making an APPOINTMENT can reduce your wait. Remember to bring at least three original documents (no photocopies accepted):
Proof of Identity
(i.e. birth certificate)
Proof of Social Security Number
Proof of California Residency
Note: If you have changed your name, a legal document, such as a marriage certificate or divorce decree, might also be required.
There is no need to rush. You can use your valid California driver license or ID card at airports until October 1, 2020. You can always use a passport, military ID or other TSA-approved identification document to get through airport security instead of a REAL ID.
